I had and experience today that reminded me of the importance of safe wheeling.
1. Never wheel alone
2. Tell someone where you are going
3. Know the area you are going, the backcountry and its changing conditions can be dangerous.
4. Know your limits and your vehichles
5. Be equipped with proper gear for your vehincle and clothing, to get you out of troubles is they arise
6. Stay with your vehichle when in trouble
Belonging to a local club can help you with all these important things not to mention all the fun it is to be doing your favorite thing with good friends.
I was up on the mountain today and hopefully made friends with a fellow outdoor family. They had become stuck in the snow and already spent the night in their jeep. Not knowing the area well they planned a route using their map and left a note on their jeep,( Jeep stuck, family with two small children not clothed well for the weather walking on trail # , left at 7:30 am.) We continued around their vehichle going up the route we had chosen when we were just about to turn around ourselves and go home not knowing the family was already called in to search and rescue. We spotted the family, took them back to their jeep, got them unstuck, and took them down to the search and rescue base. I hope if they see this that I stand true in my invitation to come sometime for a trail ride with us and that they do join a local club in their area to learn all the fun and safe ways to wheel.
I'm thankful that for whatever reason we were on that trail at that time. Blessings to our new friends.
